Equipping Right

Under the current sheriff, equipment and resources meant to serve the public are being wasted or mismanaged. A PLX system was purchased for $100,000 with an annual $25,000 maintenance fee, yet it has never functioned properly. According to the SBI, the best use for the PLX is as a door prop. MCK pistol brace conversion kits—intended to improve the accuracy of SRO pistols—have been sitting untouched in a closet for over three years. Meanwhile, frontline deputies are expected to patrol in vehicles with over 150,000 miles on them. At the same time, new vehicles sit parked and hidden across Randolph County, waiting to be equipped—kept out of public view instead of put into service.

This approach not only fails our deputies but also weakens public safety. Equipment should be in the hands of those who need it, not buried in storage or wasted on ineffective systems. As your sheriff, I will end this wasteful mismanagement. I will ensure that every officer is properly outfitted to do their job safely and effectively. Our deputies deserve better—and under my leadership, they’ll have it.
